E4200 Advice

Hi,

Today I purchasd a E4200 v1 which has 'Tomato Firmware v1.28.04.99 MIPSR2Toastman-RT-N K26 USB Ext' installed.

I'd like to use the router for -

  • UnoTelly (I can only see DD-WRT instructions on their website)
  • Connect a USB HDD
  • Connect to both 2.4 and 5 ghz channels

Reading some of the forums some of the firmwares dont have USB support whilst others dont have 5ghz.

I already have a E1200 running DD-WRT but wanted this E4200 for the USB and 5 ghz.

So should should I stick with the Tomato version already installed, install a better Tomato version or install DD-WRT?

Appreciate any advice

Thanks

Using Plex while using router VPN

Hi All,

I just flashed my R7000 with the new Kong Mod, set everything up including my VPN (Private Internet Access). Everything is working great, except I cannot access my Plex server remotely (from outside my network). Does anyone have a router setup, or script, to let Plex either go around the VPN or though it somehow? Any help would be great as I am just now learning the ins and outs of DDWRT. Which, by the way, is AWESOME!! Many thanks to the folks that put in the hard work creating. Thanks again for your help.

Availability of Open Source Firmware for Netgear D7000 Modem Router

Hi,

Help Compile and Promote additional 3rd Party Resources and Support for Netgear's Nighthawk AC1900 VDSL/ADSL Modem Router. (D7000-100UKS)

This specific model is a 802.11ac Dual Band Gigabit Modem/Router for the UK market and advertises itself as: 'Works with DSL ISPs like BT Infinity, TalkTalk Fibre and more' . I myself am using it with Plusnet's Unlimited Fibre Extra Subscription.

After a bit of Googling and searching the normal sources of Information (openwrt.org / dd-wrt.com etc.) I get the impression there currently isin't much Information or Community activity focusing on this particular model. I'm wondering why this might be, I mean it's only an R7000 with a A/DSL Modem built in... isin't it?
Does any one have any Ideas or resources they are willing to share?

Thanks in advance.

Best way to display something to an attached screen?

I would like to modify the code on a router (any model) to output messages to a screen, what would be the easiest way to do that? I've considered trying to find a displayport driver that works in linux so I can use a USB port, I'd prefer something more like a usb-serial adapter to drive an lcd panel. Does anyone have experience with this?

Recommend firmware for Netgear WNR3500L V2

Hey folks,

I am new to the world of open source router firmware and I recently just purchased a Netgear WNR3500L v2 as an upgrade to my Hitron router which I despised. The Hitron was provided by my ISP and for stome reason I was not able to change my NAT settings. This was a two in one device (router and mode). So now I have the 3500l v2 and I'm looking for the best or simplest and most stable firmware to use. I have been leaning towards Tomato. My needs are having the ability to easily change the NAT settings, set static IP addresses to my devices (mainly the Xbox One), and capabilities that allow me to increase the wireless range and strength. I also use Hidemyass as a VPN provider so something that is compatible with that would be great. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Kevin

getting Dynamic DNS working on a tomato router behind a Verizon FIOS router

Hey all,

I been running KODI on my Amazon Firestick by connecting it not to my regular Verizon FIOS/Wireless Actiontec router, but instead to my NETGEAR WNR3500L wireless router which is running Tomato firmware (and that tomato router is connected to my Verizon Router.

I setup this separate router so I can have the firestick/KODI go through an Amsterdam VPN . So its slower than regular connection.

For my other computers/laptops on the network, I connect directly to the Verizon Wireless router.

###########

The above setup works out great... But now I want to setup DDNS and Port Forwarding on the Tomato router... so I can use like a Dynamic DNS service like no-ip.org and Remote Desktop to my desktop box via TCP port 3389.

But I realized even though I set this DDNS and Port Forwarding stuff up on the Tomato router, it doesn't matter as outside the world can't reach the Tomato router (only the Verizon Router which won't know how to forward that RemoteDesktop request).

Is there a way to setup so requests to myusername.no-ip.org on the Veritzon ActionTec box get routed to the Tomato router (which then has the settings to appropriately forward to my static ip box ... without using like a DMZ setup.

I went to the Port Forwarding section of my verizon box (192.168.1.1) and setup to forward to the IP address of the Tomato router (192.168.0.1) for the port 3389.
I also tried forwarding to my box directly which has a static ip (192.168.0.2) set via Tomato as the Port Forward ip in Verizon Port Forward settings and still doesn't work. Any idea what to set to get this to work?

PS I'm testing via 'telnet myusername.no-ip.org 3389' and also my Android Phone's Remote Desktop app with no response. Telnet does say 'Trying ##.##.##.##.##' (my WAN public IP address so I know Tomato's DDNS settings are working to send up the public WAN i.p. to no-ip.org (set via the 'External IP Address Checker every 10minutes' setting) so it can resolve the IP when contacting the host ...

But it doesn't actually get forwarded correctly and connect I think.

Thanks,

Ari

**ATTENTION ADMIN - Open Router Forums DISAPPEARS when I log in...???!!!

I know this isn't the right place to post this, but I don't see a 'site issue' forum or anything.

This just started all of a sudden today.

When I am **NOT** logged-in to my account here on My Open Router.com, I can VIEW all the forums, see and read all the threads and replies.

BUT when I Log-In, then ALL Threads Disappear!!
Any threads that I have open, or open by a saved link, ONLY shows the title of the thread, but NONE of the posts or nothing else shows.

What in the world would cause this????
Did they do a site update or something, and something went wrong, or a bug that has been overlooked????

Am I the only one having this issue?? I didn't think I had anyway to post at all, and just happened to find that I could hit the "new topic" button and it worked. So if others are having the same issues, they may not have found this out yet.

I have tried this on 3 different browsers, chrome, Firefox and explorer, ALL 3 with the same results.
This makes no sense.... never seen anything like this happen before.

I hope they get this fixed, as right now I have to log-out just to see or read a thread.
Which also means I can't post any reply, as if I log in so I can post a reply, the thread, discussion, and reply buttons ALL disappear!

So can someone please forward this to the site administrators?

I'll watch this thread to see if replies are posted, but I have to log out so I can read the thread. Which again means I will not be able to make any replies, I can only create a  "new topic".

Thanks

How do I get Dansguardian on my Netgear R7000 router?

I also don't understand why I can't use apt-get to install Dansguardian myself.

If there is a better parental control application, please let me know.

Thanks,

Jake

Tomato: Explain QoS Settings?

$

I read the "Using Tomato's QOS System" tutorial and maybe gained some more knowledge, but I still have a gap in my understanding.

First, I want to be clear on the Outbound Max Bandwidth. This is really my upload speed multiplied by .85. And Inbound is my Download speed. It is easy for me to get the two confused.

Please explain what the two columns are for "Highest". I'm not sure what 80% - 100% means.
What happens when 80% is reached?
What happens when 100% is reached?
What if I choose no limit? Is that the same as 100%

Thank you,
Jake

Hello.

I just bought a brand new R6250, and installed the latest KONG DD-WRT(DD-WRT v3.0-r28000M kongac (10/24/15))

I just cant install Transmission client.

I tried the following guide: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Transmission_daemon

But when installing i get this error running this script: - wget http://www.3iii.dk/linux/optware/optware-install-ddwrt.sh -O /tmp/optware-install.sh

sh /tmp/optware-install.sh

this error:

/tmp/optware-install.sh: line 94: /opt/sbin/ldconfig: Permission denied
/tmp/optware-install.sh: line 95: /opt/bin/ipkg: Permission denied
/tmp/optware-install.sh: line 96: /opt/bin/ipkg: Permission denied
/tmp/optware-install.sh: line 97: /opt/bin/ipkg: Permission denied

Which results in nothing working.

I tried accessing the directory, and the permissions looks correct.

I also tried mounting the driver to fit the script, but still not working.

Can anyone help me getting, thanks alot!

One Tomato Router, two subnets, how to bridge?

I have a Netgear WNR3500L running Tomato. I want the wired devices to have their own DHCP range and the wireless have their own while maintaing the ability for both networks to communicate.

What I've done so far is the following:

Basic > Network

BridgeSTPIP AddressNetmaskDHCPIP Range (first/last)Lease Time (mins)
br0Disabled192.168.168.1255.255.255.0Enabled192.168.168.20 - 351440
br1Disabled192.168.178.1255.255.255.0Enabled192.168.178.20 - 251440

Advanced > VLAN > Wireless

Bridge eth1 to LAN1 (br1)

This has accomplished the goal for separting the DHCP ranges however wireless can't ping wired and vs. I want them to be able to communicate. What am I doing wrong?
